PROCESS

I manage your project – no hand holding required.  One of my goals is to keep headaches out of your workflow.

Here is how I will handle your project …

Proposal:

Discuss project in enough depth for me to send you a firm project quote.

  • Talk about project on the phone
  • What results do you expect from the project?
  • What do you need prospects to do in response to the copy?
  • How does the project fit into your marketing plan?
  • Describe deliverables, their format and due dates
  • Discuss project fee and payment

I submit a proposal for your approval.

Research:

My mission is to discover what motivates your prospects … and how they can get what they want through your product or service.  To that end:

Gather information on your product or service and audience … the more the better.

  • Creative brief on the copy project, if available
  • Prior marketing and sales pieces (successes and flops)
  • Technical documents, articles and information
  • Q&A with product and sales teams
  • Buyer personas, if you have them
  • Publications your audience follows

Study and take notes.

  • List features and benefits most important to your prospects
  • Distill key persuasive info and arguments

Summarize USP and positioning.

  • What differentiates your product or service from competitors?

Develop target audience messaging.

  • Segment audience into roles
  • Create buyer persona for each role, if necessary
  • Map features and benefits to the “hot buttons” of each audience segment

Writing:

Complete copy platform to make sure my writing plan meets your expectations.

Copy platform includes:

  • Copy overview
  • Trial headlines
  • Offer details
  • Description of the target market
  • Outline for longer copy projects

Submit copy platform for your review and approval.

Write the copy:

  • Generate draft
  • Revise/edit until I think your copy is perfect.  Note:  Editing for readability can boost response by hundreds of percent

Submit copy for your review by agreed due date.

Revisions:

I revise the copy according to your specific guidelines until you accept it.  If I am concerned about a particular edit, I respectfully give you my view on it.  If you want to go ahead with the edit, I cheerfully put it into the copy.

Revisions are included in the flat fee for the assignment … provided they are within the original scope of the project … and you assign them within 30 days of receipt of the copy.

If you send me a copy of the promotion in layout form, I will proofread the copy in context of the overall design.

Results:

I appreciate it when the client keeps me posted on the results of running my copy in the marketplace.  I factor lessons learned into future work we do together.
